Sixty years after its debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type still dominates the motoring scene. Its good looks and appeal never seem to fade, and it is still revered by young and old alike.
Despite its age, the Jaguar jag e-type was a revo-lutionary design for the time; it introduced many new features such as disc brakes on all four wheels, an aerodynamic body and independent rear suspension to the sports car market. It also came with a unique monocoque construction which meant it was much lighter than most sports cars of the time.
Driving a Jaguar E-Type: A Classic Sports Car Experience
The E-Type was designed by Malcolm Sayer, who was an engineer with a background in aeronautical design and had joined Jaguar in 1951. His skillset was unique in the car industry and he applied some of the principles he used on aircraft to create some truly amazing cars.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the E-Type, Jaguar has produced a pair of limited edition collection models to commemorate these iconic vehicles. The pair, which are available for purchase, come as one coupe and one roadster.
These limited edition models, which are priced at a rumoured PS650,000 each, are based on the original E-Type Series III models of 1971 to 1975 and feature unique enhancements. These include a five-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on all ratios, helical cut gears and a reinforced cast aluminium casing for added reliability.
The E-Type is a wonderful classic British sports car that is perfect for any occasion. It is a stunning car to drive, combining a great look with fantastic performance and a surprisingly nippy ride.
